Jackie, Lucinda’s mother, is one of the owners of Headley Britannia and also owns Sabrina Fair (daughter of Azupa Gazelle) – a dressage horse ridden by Lucinda.
Says Lucinda: “My mother has been supporting me since I was 5 years old. Firstly she taught me to ride, helped me to get to riding school to continue learning, looked after my first pony when I was 9 (whilst at boarding school) and continued to help me as my career took off having left school at 16.
She was my number one groom at all the events including Badminton, Burghley, Blenheim, Bramham, Le Lion, Punchestown and Windsor. When she finally retired in the mid 90’s she bought a lovely 4 year-old 7/8 TB mare called Azupa Gazelle (Lillie). She was a stunning mover and upgraded to Adv. By the time she was 6, but we changed her to pure dressage when she was 7 as we felt she would excel more in that discipline. Lillie was consequently listed for the World Games in 2002 and won the Grand Prix at the Hickstead CDI before retiring to stud when she bred 2 foals including Sabrina (my dressage horse)”.
