Cross Country Skills Clinic – Pontispool with Clayton
Pontispool Equine Sports Centre hosted a cross country clinic in April 2012 at their centre in Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton, Somerset.

As well as riding internationally, Lucinda and Clayton are outstanding trainers, regularly teaching in Europe, the US and Hong Kong.
Lucinda is trainer for the Hong Kong Equestrian team whilst Clayton is the Rider Representative of the FEI Eventing Committee.
Training work for Clayton has taken him to California and Texas in recent months.
Both Lucinda and Clayton are very much in demand to do clinics and are often asked by equestrian centres to do one-day sessions or individual tuition. Their trainees are not all top class riders but often novices who can gain hugely by a few hours tuition. Find out more about our tuition here.
“We do get a lot out of the training” said Clayton ” We met some of our current owners when we were teaching their kids, and although it can be very draining work, teaching up to 25 people a day, its very satisfying to be passing on our skills and knowledge to others”.
A typical 3-day Clinic Itinerary might include:
- Day 1: Flatwork/Dressage
- Day 2: Jumping Skills
- Day 3: Cross Country Skills
- Video/Talk/Q&A Session and dinner with Clayton/Lucinda on one of the nights.

If anyone has the chance they should do everything possible to ride with Clayton, as I know it would have a very positive impact on their season. The exercises he set, combined with his teaching improved everyone’s ride. The second day demonstrated his effectiveness as each horse came to the lesson so much more soft, relaxed and balanced for the XC school.
