July’s clinic was a huge success, with a total of 10 riders over 3 days, ranging in riding level from BE80 right up to 2*. On Tuesday each rider had an individual dressage lesson with either Clayton or Lucinda, then on Wednesday the riders worked on the showjumping phase with a pole/grid-work in the morning and progressing to a course in the afternoon. On Wednesday night Team Fredericks laid on one of their famous BBQ’s in the garden for all participants before heading to either Rabson Manor XC or Boomerang XC on Thursday.
Here are a few comments from people taking part in the course:
Liz Austin:
“I could go on for several days about how much I learned and how much I enjoyed it…Don’t worry, I won’t! I think it will be quite a long time before I can evaluate the benefits – there is so much buzzing round in my head that I need to spend a couple of days working through it. Suffice to say, perhaps, that I have managed to get an entry for the ODE at this Sunday, in the open class, and although I’m sure we’ll be considerably less than perfect, I wouldn’t have even entered a week ago.
The most helpful aspect of the clinic, for me, was that following my lessons I was able to watch other people, and both Lucinda & Clayton took the time to explain how the techniques they were using could be applied to my horse. This gave me the time to make sure I’d really understood what I had worked on. The other really helpful thing was being able to walk round the xc course first while Lucinda explained things, firstly because I was much more relaxed by the time I got on, and secondly because it mirrored much more closely the issues we face in competition.
I am very grateful for the opportunity – because Clayton & Lucinda are both such generous teachers there was never a moment, on or off the horse, when I wasn’t learning.
I hope very much that you will let me know of any more opportunities to come for some training. Please would you pass on my thanks to all concerned for making it such an inspiring experience. ”
Megan Buston: “Thoroughly enjoyed the clinic and found the experience very helpful leading to a good run at Wilton on my two rides”
