“We brought Scobie from Perth as a rising 5 year old. He trained as a racehorse but never raced. He was always a slightly lazy, laid-back TB but would always surprise you by suddenly becoming a sharp TB so I’m always aware that a buck may be in the making. Highly talented, good moving and intelligent, we sold him to Frances Smart for her to bring on slowly and go up the grades with. Scobie is generally quite a grumpy horse to deal with in the stable, though without malice, but once on his back he is a true competitor.
“I love his quick mind, turbo-speed and quick thinking brain. He was leased to our great friend Nicole Pearson who had him for the 2010 Asian games in China. Nicole progressed from PN to double clears and placings at 1* level finishing with the best score of the team in China. Scobie was the perfect horse for that job but now it’s serious business. I have ridden him 4 times with 2 Int. wins, a clear at his first CIC2* at Barbury and a creditable 8th in the intermediate championships at Gatcombe. This year he has to do the CCI 2* at Compiegne to qualify him to go ahead with his 3* qualification which hopefully will take him to Blenheim and the 4* next year.”
