The story so far in 2011

Clayton and Bendigo III kick-started the season in Portugal and claimed victory in the CIC 2* Harley Davidson Horse Trials held at Herdade Vale. First prize was a Harley bike, and in true style Clayton took it around the course for a victory tour prior to mounting the podium to claim the win.

Bendigo’s win followed a respectable score of 46.5 overall. Clayton rode four horses in the competition and Rosie – Dunges Laurent Rose – took ninth place, with Be My Guest and Walterstown Don coming in further down the field. ‘Walter’ was slighly injured during thecross-country and withdrew.

Lucinda and World champion Headley Britannia started the season in style at Tweseldown with a win in the Open Intermediate -  a great opening day of the 2011 season for Lucinda and Team Fredericks.” Brit went superbly, like a little spring chicken, and I was extremely happy with her” Lucinda said . Brit’s score was 34.3.

Prada took tenth place in the OI Section D and Flying Finish (13th) and Nysa De Petra (22nd) both had double clears. Lucinda rode The Navigator and Pipe Band at Tweseldown and also ran Clayton’s Brookleigh whilst he was in Portugal.

Clayton had another great weekend at Barroca 2, after Dressage Bendigo III (Charlie) was in the lead with Be my Guest (Lottie) in 5th and Dunge’s Laurent Rosé (Rosie) in 7th. Charlie finished 2nd having yet again had a fantastic weekend making his chosen career look so simple and Rosie was 4th.

Lucinda and four of the TF horses turned in solid performances at the Aldon event in Somerset.The Navigator, which competed in last year’s Asian Games, took 11th place in the Open Intermediate Section R with a score of 44.7. Nysa De Petra was 16th in the same section on 53.2. New girl Pipe Band (Maisy) an eleven year old chestnut mare took 18th place in the OI section Q , while Lero Lero was 19th in the novice section F.

The team had a very successful outing at the three-star Officiel de France event in Fontainebleau in March, with Clayton on Brookleigh less than a point behind winner Michael Jung on a score of 41.9. Brookleigh, co-owned with Nikki Brooks, had a dressage score of 38.7  and a clear showjumping round but picked up some time penalties on the cross country course.

Clayton’s ride Be My Guest took fifth place in the competition, with eight time penalties in the cross-country. Lucinda also had clear showjumping rounds on both Flying Finish and Prada, meaning all the TF horses jumped clear.

The stallion Mr Big Cat (Rio) took eighth place in the CCI* event at Fontainebleau, with a final score of 50.9. Scobie (The Navigator) with Lucinda aboard won the 2 star CIC at Somerley.Pipe Band came 7th and Nysa De Petra 9th.

Clayton rode the Bockmanns’ Iwo Jima into third place in the novice and Hayley Parkers Pigrela des Cabanes in his first novice run finished with a solid double clear.

Clayton and FBW Fandango won the intermediate novice at Portman on a very good dressage score of 21.8. Clayton was also riding Pigrella De Cabanes, scoring 32 dressage, 4in sj and clear xc with 2.8 time penalties. Iwo Jima had a 30 dressage score 8 sj and again clear xc with .8 time penalties.

Lucinda and The Navigator took sixth place at Compeigne in a CCI** event against other top riders including Michael Jung, winner of the recent Fontainebleau competition, and Mark Todd.

Lucinda was in fifth place earlier on The Navigator with a score of 49.1 after picking up two penalty points during the cross country. Four penalties in the showjumping left her with a final score of  53.1 Nysa De Petra finished in 22nd position on 63.7 with 10.4 penalty points in the cross country.

Clayton and Bendigo III were the winners of the Advanced Intermediate event at the South of England, with Dunges Laurent Rose coming in third place in the same section. Bendigo had an excellent dressage score (29.7)  but picked up penalties on the cross country course, finishing on 51.1. Rosie, owned by Tim and Alice Page, scored 38.0 in the dressage but with 22.4 penalties xc finished on 60.4.

Highlights of the 2010 season:

Clayton and MR Sydney Rocks were fourth in the CCI* at Le Lion, behind Nicola Wilson and Kitty King of GB and Sara Algotsson-Ostholt of Sweden, the winner. Clayton had clear cross country and showjumping rounds and finished on his dressage score of 47.3. Full results are here.

Lucinda  rode Hathors Grace in the CCI* at Aldon, jumping an easy clear in the 1star and moved up 3 places to 6th. It was a lovely warm october day to finish the season. Lucinda and others from Team Fredericks had a week of sunshine and success at Lignieres in France at the end of September and came back with a win and three placings. Nysa de Petra led from start to finish with an excellent dressage of 47.4 and had a well deserved 2** win for owners John and Elizabeth Allsop. Full story is here.

Clayton and MR Sydney Rocks took first place in the Open Novice event at Gatcombe in September with a brilliant score of 27 after a clear cross-country in the time and a clear showjumping round.

Fresh from Clayton’s best-ever Burghley – where he and Be My Guest II took third place in the landmark four-star event- it was Lucinda’s turn at the Blenheim Horse Trials (Sept 9-12).

In the CCI***. Lucinda and Prada finished ninth on a score of 55.2, while Clayton and Brookleigh were one step behind at 10th on 56.2.

Clayton and Be My Guest II took third place at Burghley( Sept 2-5)  behind winner Caroline Powell of NZ and William Fox-Pitt.
