Lucinda has withdrawn from the X-Country section of the Luhmuhlen 4**** CCI due to the very poor going. Lucinda stated “Clayton and I were not happy with the ground conditions after the first course walk. I gave the organisers time to get it right, but for me it was not good enough. My priority has always been to have Brit fresh, happy and bursting to run at the Olympics.”
This part of Germany had not had rain for seven weeks and the two days forecast for the week of the event barely touched the surface.
Clayton said “I feel for Lucinda as she had a really tough decision to make. If you look through the field it is clear, only the riders needing Olympic qualifications, three day points for Badminton or needed to impress selectors ran. The only exception was William, who was on his 5th string and is eying up the HSBC ranking money. It is always difficult on the day, but with time I think we’ll see it was the right decision.”
Lucinda will now keep to her original plan and run in the Open Intermediate at Salperton in one weeks time; then on to Barbury Castle, hopefully her final run prior to Hong Kong.
