The lure of the Olympics may be just a few months away but it’s business as usual at Rosegarth, and Lucinda called in while travelling to a dressage event in her “little red lorry” to update us on the details. Meanwhile Clayton has been in Barocca, Portugal getting ready to compete in the first event of the season on board veteran champion Ben Along Time, back from a long layoff but with high hopes for the near future.
Last weekend there was a team training event for the Olympics and that meant that Lucinda had to drop plans to compete at Ballindenisk, but she and groom Emily Young-Jamieson (Emz) did well on some of the younger horses at an unaffiliated dressage session for eventers held at the Hunters Equestrian Centre near Cirencester prior to the weekend.
Lucinda took first place on Cassie in the Class 2 FEI 1*A, While Emz on Nysa De Petra pipped her to the post, coming fourth to Lucinda’s sixth in the three-star class. Lucinda and Flying Finish took first and second place ahead of Mark Todd and Kitty King in the Class 4 PYO FEI 3*B/4*B. “I have been getting the girls out as much as we can on the horses – Emz absolutely slaughtered me on Rovello the other day at the West Wilts competition” Lucinda laughed.”This week has been full of practice and we even had Brit’s foal Millie (Little Brit) doing her first cross-country training – she was funny, just helicoptered!.” she added
Meanwhile Ellie has been taking part in a non-equestrian talent show that involves singing and acting in Wiltshire over this weekend. She’s in for a pleasant surprise after school on Friday when she and Mum are flying out to Barocca to watch Clayton compete. In Mid- March Lucinda has a training session in Holland.
The CIC* and CIC** events take place at Barocca between 29 Feb and 4 March, then CCI one two and three star events run between 7-11 March. Website for the event can be seen here, but keep watching for coverage of the event as it happens.
